This article explains which incoming server (IMAP / POP3) and outgoing srver (SMTP) you must use when you are using an e-mail address hosted by Kinamo. This article is applicable to Kinamo shared hosting customers, dedicated hosting customers, cloud server hosting and server hosting customers with e-mail addresses.
Your e-mail address can be configured using either the IMAP protocol or POP3 protocol.
If you configure your account as an IMAP account, all e-mail messages remain on the server.
This means that you will have to set up e-mail on every device as an IMAP account: this allows you to check your mailbox on desktops, tablets, smartphone and webmail without removing them from the server.
Be careful: the storage space of your IMAP mailbox is limited, be sure to remove unwanted messages and clear your trash bin!
If you setup your account as a POP3 account, all messages are downloaded to your device and WILL BE REMOVED from the server, with each e-mail check for new messages.
If you first check mail (send / receive) on your desktop computer and later on check e-mail on your tablet or smartphone, your mailbox will be empty: all messages were first downloaded to your computer in your e-mail program, and removed from the server.
You can use the following general settings for incoming e-mail:
Account type (protocol): IMAP or POP3 Incoming mailserver: in.kinamo.be Username: your complete e-mail address, e.g. yourname@yourdomain.be Password: your password Security: SSL (STARTLS is also supported) Port: 993 (IMAP), 995 (POP3)
For the outgoing server (SMTP) please check our outgoing server FAQ item.
You may use the following standard settings:
Outgoing server (SMTP): out.kinamo.be Port: 587 Connection: SSL Authentication: password (iOS specific, MD5 - Challenge Response is also valid) Username: your e-mail address Password: your password for your e-mail address
