What is a TXT record?

Last updated: 14/01/2016

Within a domain name zone, a TXT record is used for keeping text information.

Virtually anything can be added in a TXT entry, but common uses are SPF (Sender Policy Framework) records, used to identify your outgoing mailservers, and DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) or Sender ID records.

A TXT record always has a hostname so you can assign the text information to a hostname.
